Mission & Vision

ANCB is a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization formed in 2003 to administer a National Certification Program for natural health professionals. Our mission is to:

  • Provide a testing process that promotes high standards of ethics and competence among naturopaths, health care professionals, and other natural healers;
  • Assure that ANCB certified naturopathic professionals meet specific standards of continuing education and experience and are committed to a high level of ethical practice;
  • Promote the principles and practices of natural healing, and;
  • Influence federal and state legislation pertaining to natural health.

Joanie Coffey
Joanie CoffeyDirector
Joanie is educated, trained and professionally certified in Naturopathy, Reiki, Nutrition, and Clinical Therapy. In addition to her bustling natural health practice of 23 years in Colorado, Joanie brings to ANCB a wealth of experience in legislative issues.

Her passion for Health Freedom has led her to serve as President of the Colorado Coalition for Natural Health since 1997, and in 2013 the group succeeded in passing SB 215, which secures a legal right to practice for over 10,000 natural health practitioners statewide. Joanie is known for her no-nonsense style of leadership and her lobbying tenacity.

Phyllis D. Light
Phyllis D. LightPresident
Phyllis D. Light, MA, LMT, is an herbalist, natural health consultant and health educator with over 27 years of clinical experience. She is traditionally trained in Southern and Appalachian Folk Medicine and began her studies with her Creek/Cherokee grandmother in the deep woods of North Alabama. Phyllis continued her studies with Appalachian elders and studies in conventional Western bio-medicine.

Phyllis is a professional member of the American Herbalist Guild. She teaches classes in natural health and herbalism at universities, hospitals, and conferences across the country. Phyllis is a licensed massage therapist, Reiki Master, reflexologist, and health educator. Phyllis is Director of the Appalachian Center for Health Studies, offering online and residential traditional herbal and health classes in Arab, AL. She is a member of the Cherokee Tribe of Northeast Alabama.

Dan Funsch
Dan FunschSecretary & Executive Director
Dan Funsch, MS, has 25 years of experience in managing non-profit organizations in the fields of health care and conservation. With his background in outreach, legislation, and communications, Dan handles ANCB’s day-to-day activities and logistics, while also coordinating ANCB’s legislative action and educational programs. Dan has served as Director of ANCB since 2005.
