Legislative Issues: Background
Natural Health laws and regulations are complex, and vary widely from State to State. It’s important to know the laws and regulations that may affect your right to practice. Some healing modalities, such as Massage Therapy and Acupuncture, require state-issued licenses to practice in most states. Others, such as Homeopathy and Reiki, are largely unregulated.
Naturopathy regulations vary from state to state — currently, a little over a dozen states (below) require state-issued licenses to practice Naturopathy. Some of these states have imposed strict requirements, while some only limit certain titles that practitioners can use. Please contact your states licensing board (if applicable) or seek legal advice if you have questions about your state’s laws.
